Supporting the next generation of community leaders
Fifteen young people from the Clarence and Derwent Valley have celebrated graduating from Loreto Community Housing's Inspiring Future Leaders program, marking the culmination of 12 weeks of learning, leadership and community connection.
Supported by the Tasmanian Community Fund, the free program equips participants with practical skills, qualifications and the confidence to develop ideas that create positive change in their communities.
Loreto Community Housing Inspiring Future Leaders Coach Hollie said it had been rewarding to watch participants grow throughout the program.
"It has been incredibly rewarding to watch our participants develop ideas that will make a real difference in their communities," she said.
"It's amazing to see them at graduation, showcasing their work, sharing project ideas and celebrating alongside friends, family and supporters."
Throughout the program participants connected with guest speakers, explored their communities through field trips, built networks with local organisations and developed the skills to plan and pitch projects addressing local needs.
Five projects developed through this year's Clarence and Derwent Valley programs have since received seed funding and ongoing coaching support to bring their ideas to life.
They include an anti-bullying awareness event, a community safety initiative in Bridgewater, a STEM education program for children in the Clarence Plains community, a mental health vision board workshop and a social group supporting migrant community members.
Hollie said the projects reflected the creativity and commitment of the participants.
"These projects highlight the passion and insights participants bring to issues that matter locally,” she said.
The Inspiring Future Leaders program continues to support young people across southern Tasmania, with upcoming programs scheduled for Glenorchy and Brighton later this year.
