Climbing the Peak

At the start of July, the Friends of St Valentine’s Peak witnessed the instillation of a pedestrian bridge that crosses a river on the St Valentine’s Peak walking track.
The track is located 36km south west of Burnie.
300 meters into the track there is a river, and since 2016 there has not been an easy way of crossing it to continue walking.
This has made it difficult for people to continue along the track, and impossible for people with disabilities to enjoy the walk.
The bridge, built with funding from the TCF, is 15 meters long and one meter wide, allowing people to easily cross the river and continue to the peak.
The St Valentines Peak walking track will be more accessible to the community with the installation of this bridge.
It was a momentous and emotional event for the group, who at times thought the project would not come to fruition!
