Governance for Social Impact Returns
In October, the Centre for Social Impact through the University of NSW delivered Governance for Social Impact training in Hobart for 25 community sector leaders.
Dr Lyndsey McKee National Industry Director from the Centre of Social Impact and Shamal Dass, Head of Family Advisory and Philanthropic Services at JBWere guided the participants through an intensive two days of learning that left participants energised and inspired.
Our participants learnt about many areas of social governance, including effectively governing in a complex social ecosystem, the role of boards in optimising strategy for social impact, what it means to govern with a ‘mission-first’ agenda, systems and tools to create change in your organisation and many other important areas.
James Riggall from Regional Development Australia (Tasmania) said it was a really wonderful experience.
“You don’t get too many opportunities to reflect on what great governance looks like in the not-for-profit sector and be surrounded by so many amazing people doing great work in Tasmania,” James said.
Elise Frost Break O Day Employment Connect and Dorset Employment Connect said the course was really challenging but in a safe space with presenters who are experts in their field.
“I’m walking away with so many quotes written down and nuggets of gold for my work and my life,” Elise said.
In recognition of the need across the Tasmanian community for this training, the TCF Board has agreed to provide an additional Governance for Social Impact sessions in 2026 and 2027 meaning there will be two courses in each of the next two years.
In 2026 the two-day training sessions will be offered in Launceston on 24 and 25 March
And Hobart on 9 and 10 November.
If applicants would like to participate in the Launceston training, applications need to be received by 21 January 2026. Applications close on 21 August 2026 for Hobart.
The Tasmanian Community Fund recognises the need to build individual and community leadership capacity to provide improved outcomes for communities. The Governance for Social Impact training is just one of the leadership initiatives that the TCF supports.
