TCF April Funding Announcements

In the latest round of TCF funding, the Board allocated over $1.8 million to six projects, all of which aim to break down barriers to education for young Tasmanians and increase community capacity to develop and lead place-based solutions.

Burnie High School have received $795,000 to expand and grow the successful Burnie Counts program. Burnie Counts has had significant community and family engagement in this project, and there has been a noticeable improvement in students numeracy skills. In the 2024 Grade 9 Numeracy NAPLAN results, 89% of students achieved medium to high growth, a significant improvement comparted to the rest of Tasmania which sat at 75%. Led by Burnie High School, Burnie Counts will now become Tasmania Counts, expanding into three more clusters across Tasmania over the next three years.

A Fairer World have received over $500,000 for their Diversity Matters program. This project is focused on boosting learning outcomes by building empathy, resilience and inclusion in rural primary schools, focusing on the West Coast, Huon Valley and Derwent Valley.

Hobart City High School (HCHS) received over $150,000 for its Tasmanian Learning Commission, which champions innovative, community-driven solutions to support young people in their learning journeys. HCHS are fostering environments that prioritise happiness, wellbeing and resilience to enhance students learning, and are using other similar programs to guide their path forward.

Make Your Mark is an innovative pilot program that will empower 20 young football players to discover, refine and expand their leadership and advocacy skills, while fostering personal growth and community impact. The TCF will provide almost $50,000 to EACH Limited to run this program, which will be delivered in Northern Tasmania. This leadership program will be extremely beneficial for the participants and will also be a boost to the local football community.

The final two funding recipients are Bellerive Primary School and the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Bellerive Primary School have received $50,000 to install an outdoor learning space that enhances food literacy, sustainability and student wellbeing through hands on educational experiences.

UNSW received $223,600 to deliver Governance for Social Impact workshops in Tasmania over the next three years after the success of the program in 2024.
