The Tasmanian Community Fund (TCF) Board are delighted to welcome Dr Madeleine Way (Maddy) as Intern Director. Maddy commenced her Intern Director role in July and will be mentored by TCF Chairperson Sally Darke.

Maddy is the Chair of Canteen Australia, an organisation that supports young people aged 12-25 years old who have been affected by cancer, either their own diagnosis, or that of a close family member. She has been a director on the board since 2017.

Following the completion of her PhD in apple cider, she gained industry experience working in both brewing and distilling operations in Tasmania. She is now working in the Research Division of UTAS, specialising in Scholarships and Partnerships.

Maddy is also a Graduate of the Tasmanian Community Fund’s Emerging Community Leaders Program of 2023.

King Island was the location for her first board meeting and community outreach and Maddy said it was amazing to experience a tough, resilient community who were so strongly intertwined while learning from the TCF Board Directors.

“In every discussion, either around the board table or out in the community was brought back to the TCF mission statement, investing in and strengthening the community by supporting projects that remove barriers to learning for young people aged between 8 and 19 and increase community leadership capacity,” Maddy said.

“I am honoured to be selected for this Intern position, to learn from those who are so passionate about our communities in the state while also having incredibly high skilled understanding of governance.

“I'm looking forward to seeing more areas around Tasmania where we can see the incredible work that has been made possible by TCF.”
