The Tasmanian Community Fund (TCF) was proud to be the principal supporter of ABC’s Takeover Burnie Program, which recently assisted young people in Burnie share their unique stories with Tasmania and the rest of Australia.

One of the highlights of the program was the screening of 34 short videos created by the young participants at a gala evening shared with families and friends.

Takeover is a national storytelling initiative designed to amplify the voices of young people aged 12 to 18, giving them the tools, mentoring and confidence to speak about the issues that matter most to them.

Through a series of workshops and mentoring sessions, participants learned storytelling, writing and broadcasting skills working alongside ABC producers and journalists to create powerful personal stories.

Selected stories were shared on ABC platforms across radio, TV and digital channels, shining a light on the perspectives of Burnie’s youth and showcasing the creativity, resilience and diversity of the region.

Chairperson Kym Goodes said the program aligned strongly with the TCF’s commitment to supporting young Tasmanians.

“We were excited to bring Takeover to Burnie and to support young people share their stories with Tasmania as well as the rest of Australia,” she said.

“A key focus of the TCF is to help remove barriers to learning for young people.

“Takeover Burnie supported the young participants to become strong, vibrant, resilient members of their community, capable of shaping their own future.

“The TCF’s support ensured the project reached a wide range of young people in Burnie and the surrounding region, creating opportunities for learning, connection and growth that will continue to benefit the community.”
