Regional program supports young people to build confident futures
Young people in southern Tasmania are gaining stronger pathways into education, training and employment through the Regional Engagement and Experience Program (REEP), which recently delivered its first session at Sorell School.
Delivered by Business and Employment Southeast Tasmania (BEST), the program supports students in Years 10 to 12 across the Tasman, Sorell and Glamorgan Spring Bay regions.
By working closely with schools and families, REEP provides personalised support that helps students connect their learning with real world opportunities.
Program Coordinator Olivia Pettit said early engagement is key to helping young people make informed decisions about their future.
“By working with students while they are still at school, we can give them the time, support and local connections they need to explore their options and build confidence in their pathway,” she said.
REEP offers one on one career planning, access to essential pre employment qualifications such as White Card, First Aid and RSA, as well as structured work experience and mentoring.
The program is designed to support students who may face barriers such as transport challenges, limited local opportunities or disengagement from traditional learning.
Ms Pettit said the program’s strength lies in its strong local partnerships.
“We are working alongside schools, families, employers and community organisations to make sure the support we provide reflects the realities of young people in these regions,” she said.
“This place based approach means students are not only building skills but also forming real connections with local industries and employers.”
Over the next 12 to 18 months REEP will continue to expand its early intervention work, strengthen school based delivery and increase employer led opportunities, ensuring more young people can explore meaningful pathways close to home.
The Tasmanian Community Fund is proud to support programs like REEP that help young Tasmanians build confidence, develop practical skills and take positive steps toward their future.
