Excitement is building in George Town Neighbourhood House as work progresses on the new community Makers Space, supported through the Tasmanian Community Fund.

A significant milestone was recently reached, with site preparation works now complete and the project ready for the slab to be poured, marking the next step toward creating a welcoming and inclusive community space.

With visible progress now underway, community members have been stopping to ask questions, share ideas and discuss how they hope to use the space once it opens.

The Makers Space has been designed to create opportunities for people to connect, learn new skills and share knowledge in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Future activities could include workshops, creative projects and practical learning opportunities shaped by community interest and demand.

There has already been strong interest from people looking to volunteer their skills, run activities or participate in future programs.

The project also aims to help reduce social isolation by creating a space where people of all ages and backgrounds feel welcome, whether that be to learn practical skills, explore creative interests, work on projects or simply connect with others.

A key focus of the initiative is fostering intergenerational learning and connection, creating opportunities for people with valuable knowledge and life experience to share their skills with younger generations and the wider community.

Although construction remains in its early stages, the project is already creating a growing sense of ownership and enthusiasm within George Town.

The Tasmanian Community Fund is proud to support initiatives that strengthen community wellbeing and create spaces where Tasmanians can build connections, share skills and shape their future together.
