TCF Funding Recipients December

At the December Board meeting, the Tasmanian Community Fund (TCF) allocated over $1.5 million for 12 programs for community groups and not-for-profit organisations.
Included in the funding is an outdoor kitchen at East Tamar Primary School, a leadership program for children and young people for the Huon Valley PCYC, the Kuno Foundation’s community run website for young people on or visiting Bruny Island and circus workshops for young people on the North West Coast through Slipstream Circus.
The Funding Network’s project ‘The Power of Impact Storytelling’ received over $127,000 to run statewide workshops to improve storytelling skills in community organisations.
“We are going to run a series of workshops that will support smaller grassroots community groups and not-for-profits around Tasmania to celebrate their successes and talk about their impact through storytelling, which cuts through more than facts and figures,” Director of Purpose and Impact Andrea Heffernan said.
“The funding is fantastic. It is over a three-year time frame and it means we will be able to target the organisations we want to target.
“To be able to do these workshops down in Tassie is a huge bonus.”
The Shepherd Centre received over $752,000 to run its ‘We’re Hear For You in Tasmania’ programs, which will break down barriers to learning for young deaf and hearing impaired Tasmanians.
“As we know, historically, Tasmania has lacked specialist hearing loss services for early intervention,” Shepherd Centre CEO Dr Aleisha Davis said.
“Thanks to the vision and insight of TCF and the successful partnership with The Shepherd Centre, that changed a few years ago.
“However, there are many children that have been left behind, there are an estimated 270 school-aged children living with hearing loss in Tasmania, the majority of who have lacked access to critical early support.
“To help them to flourish, we’ll develop and pilot programs focusing on literacy, social identity, wellbeing, and building capability and capacity for parents and teachers.”
Other funded organisations include Abels Run Inc for a youth engagement program, an art therapy program at Calvin Christian School, Launceston City Mission’s Project North leadership program, a play space for the Westbury Primary School Association and breakfast programs for Spreyton Primary School and Variety the Children’s Charity.
