Royal Flying Doctors Funding

The Tasmanian Community Fund are proud to support The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) by funding its exciting new educational Simulator.

The program, named “Look! Up in the Sky” will revolutionise the existing RFDS Education Program, offering interactive and engaging experiences for students across Tasmania.

A highlight of the program is the inclusion of a life-sized model of a Flying Doctor plane, serving as an aeromedical simulator. This innovative tool transports students into the cockpit and fuselage of an RFDS aircraft, complete with avionics, flight simulation capabilities, and fully equipped medical facilities, including stretchers, communications, oxygen, and suction.

The Simulator provides students with immersive, "real-life" experiences, allowing them to hear stories, land a plane in the outback, and participate in patient rescue simulations. Most importantly, students have the opportunity to climb aboard, strap themselves in, and enjoy this unique educational adventure.

“We know that having the RFDS engage students through the hands-on experiences in the Simulator will open their minds to learning and opportunities they cannot currently get in the classroom,” Ms Darke said.

“The curriculum resources that accompany the Simulator will provide students the opportunity to learn about the important work of the RFDS as well as provide health, aviation and historical information that can inspire them to think differently about their world and career opportunities.”

The Simulator officially launched on Sunday 24 March in Invermay, with Simulator tours showing people the power of the new Simulator.
