Launceston City Mission officially opened the Mission Health extension at 99 Wellington Street Launceston, in November. An infrastructure project funded by the Tasmanian Community Fund (TCF).

Demolition and building commenced in August this year converting part of the premises into consulting, office and storage spaces.

“The new fit for purpose facility will provide dignity, flexibility and an improved physical environment when supporting clients,” said Jonette Scott, Operations Manager Health and AOD Services.

Mission Health has been recognised as an outstanding practice, providing exceptional care and innovation to improve the health of our community. This award-winning Nurse-Practitioner-led, drop-in service provides free healthcare to vulnerable people at risk of or experiencing homelessness. The new extension will provide new service offerings such as allied health.

Mission Health aims to improve the health and wellbeing outcomes of vulnerable community members in Launceston. The service expanded to four days a week earlier this year.

“We are incredibly grateful for the staff and volunteer medical professionals that contribute their passion, time and expertise to support people in our community who are experiencing homelessness, and we know that their work makes such an important difference in the long term health and wellbeing outcomes for those who are most in need,” Jonette said.

“We are committed to breaking down the barriers to health care that many Mission Health patients experience.”

Tasmanian Community Fund Chairperson Sally Darke said the Fund was proud to support this important work.

“Being able to fund a dignified and private space for vulnerable people in this way means we can reduce barriers for seeking help, which ultimately improves their health and wellbeing,” she said.
