Community Committee training comes to a close

Community Committee training has wrapped up after three years.

The program was an initiative of the Tasmanian Community Fund and was free to members of Tasmanian community, sporting and other related organisations.

The team of Steve Allen, Donna Bain and Ella Dixon conducted 45 grass roots community governance training workshops in a range of locations across the state.

Artist and community worker Emily-Rose Wills from the George Town area attended and found the training to be a reminder that getting back to basics was both important and often undervalued for community committees.

“The training was an excellent primer in the essentials of effective committee work, offering practical strategies to tackle governance challenges with confidence,” Emily said.

“The specific focus on individual committee roles was particularly invaluable, breaking down these responsibilities in a way that made them feel approachable and achievable, even for those new to governance.

“The broader impact of this training on the community is profound, by equipping committee members with the skills and confidence to govern effectively, it ensures that local groups and organisations are not only functional but also capable of driving meaningful outcomes.

“Grass roots governance is the backbone of community resilience, and this training provides the tools to build strong, inclusive, and sustainable committees.”
