The TCF has awarded nearly $2.6 million of funding for eight projects in its latest strategic initiatives grant round.

Included in the funding is a community-based arts programs for at risk children in Hobart’s Northern Suburbs, affordable accommodation with intensive case management for young people in Launceston, the expansion of a state wide school lunch project and an employment project which aims to remove barriers for employers to engage the culturally diverse employees of Tasmania.

TCF Chair Sally Darke said the TCF Board was pleased to be able to support so many worthwhile projects and programs in Tasmania through these grants.

“It is important that we are able to meet the needs of our communities, and this round continues to show how the fund has adapted to meet these needs, especially when it comes to removing barriers to education and employment,” Ms Darke said.

Bucaan Community House in Chigwell has been funded to run an expanded arts program for young people aged from 10 to 16 years, after proving the model through a successful pilot program which commenced in 2019.

Run in conjunction with specialist youth arts organisation Create Crew, the Crewative Arts Connect program delivers arts events and activities designed to increase social connection and learning for participants as they try their hand at a multitude of art activities including cartooning, clay works, digital art, film making, t-shirt printing and photography.

Karinya Youth Transitional Tenancy Program is a 3 year pilot project designed to assist young people aged 16 to 24 years who are either currently experiencing, or at risk of homelessness.

The program's primary focus is providing safe, affordable, and appropriate housing in the Launceston area along with intensive case management to support the young person accessing education and employment, strengthening family and support

networks, enhancing connections to culture and community and accessing clinical support

to address mental health issues and their overall well-being.

The program will enable a young person to successfully transition safely and competently to independence with improved health and wellbeing, education outcomes and

financial stability.

The next round of funding will be Community Infrastructure Grants, expressions of interest for which open on 5 August 2023 and close on 13 September.
