Four people from the Brighton municipality have graduated from the Tasmanian Community Fund’s (TCF) fifth Emerging Community Leaders (ECL) program.

For the past 12 months, 20 people from across the state participated in the fifth ECL program, which allowed them to increase their communication, finance, governance, leadership and project management skills.

The participants designed and implemented various community projects as part of the program.

Brighton resident Andres Perez-Roca participated in a project that advocated for universal access in Tasmania.

“Participation in the ECL program is an invaluable experience,” he said.

“The program taught me much about myself and how to leverage my strengths to achieve positive community outcomes.

“Having four community-focused individuals from Brighton graduating from the program is fantastic.

“The learnings that we had during the course will help us better understand the needs of our community, and, hopefully, we will have the opportunity to put these learnings into practice to continue improving it.

“Anyone interested in growing personally and with a genuine interest in serving others would benefit greatly from the program.”

TCF chairperson Sally Darke said leadership was a vital ingredient in making positive change within the community and the TCF was proud to be playing a part in improving leadership skills across the community through the Emerging Community Leaders program.

“The diverse group of participants in the 2022 program shows that leadership comes in many guises, with participants coming from around the state and bringing various skills to the table,” she said.

“Each participant had vision, energy and commitment to their sector and learnt much more about themselves and how to better shape their future as leaders in Tasmania.”
