Shaping the future of the Tasmanian Community Fund

The Tasmanian Community Fund has completed consultation on its new Strategic Plan and funding approach.

Thank you to everyone who shared their views.

Throughout 2025 and 2026, the TCF Board and staff heard from grant recipients, applicants, community organisations, peak bodies, government agencies, sector leaders and other stakeholders about how the Fund can make the greatest possible contribution to Tasmania’s communities.

This feedback has helped shape the Fund’s new direction.

What we heard

There was strong support for the role TCF plays in Tasmania and for its broad purpose of providing lasting benefit to Tasmanian communities.

We also heard clear opportunities to improve how the Fund works.

Stakeholders consistently called for:

  • clearer and more transparent funding processes
  • simpler and more accessible grant opportunities
  • funding requirements that are proportionate to the size and risk of a grant
  • greater clarity about what TCF is seeking to achieve
  • continued access for communities and organisations of different sizes and levels of capability
  • stronger relationships based on trust, partnership and collaboration
  • an approach that can respond to changing community needs while creating lasting benefit.

How we responded

The feedback received through consultation has been considered by the TCF Board in finalising our Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and Funding Framework.

A number of refinements to our draft strategy have been made in response to what we heard, including strengthening the clarity of the Fund’s funding pathways, improving the connection between strategy and funding rounds, and reinforcing the importance of accessible, transparent and proportionate grant processes.

Our new direction

TCF’s new Strategic Plan is centred on a simple vision:

Tasmania’s communities are connected, resilient and thriving.

The Fund will continue to support a broad range of community activity while becoming clearer about the different ways it can contribute to lasting community benefit.

Our funding will be delivered through four pathways.

Community Action

Supporting practical, community-led projects that respond to local needs and opportunities, strengthen participation and bring people together.

Capability Building

Strengthening the skills, leadership, organisations and community capability needed to create lasting change.

Major Initiatives

Supporting larger and longer-term initiatives addressing significant community challenges and opportunities.

Grants in Focus

Targeted funding opportunities developed in response to particular issues or opportunities identified by the Board.

Together, these pathways allow TCF to support everything from local community action through to larger initiatives requiring sustained investment and collaboration.

Funding in 2026–27

The Tasmanian Community Fund Funding Plan 2026–27 sets out how the new funding approach will be put into practice over the coming year.

It provides an overview of the funding pathways and opportunities planned for 2026–27, including Community Action, Capability Building, Major Initiatives and Grants in Focus.

Individual grant rounds will provide more detailed information about who can apply, the funding available, assessment processes and application dates.

New funding opportunities

TCF will shortly begin opening funding opportunities under the new approach.

Each funding round will include clear information about what it supports, who can apply, funding available, assessment criteria, application requirements and key dates.

Continuing to listen and learn

The adoption of the Strategic Plan is not the end of this work.

TCF will continue to improve its grant-making, engagement, assessment and reporting processes as the new approach is implemented.

We will listen to the experience of applicants, grant recipients and communities and use what we learn to improve how the Fund works over time.

Our purpose remains the same: to provide lasting benefit to Tasmanian communities.
