Metal Minds Robotics promotes Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) for Tasmanian 10 to 18 year olds, in a non-school environment through engineering design of competitive robots. Through the program young people develop programming and problem solving skills.

With Tasmanian Community Fund support, Metal Minds Robotics was able to hold the Tasmanian State FIRST Lego League (FLL) Championships in Launceston and establish the basis for a FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) State Championship.  FIRST is an acronym for (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).

Through the project, Metal Minds Robotics was able to acquire infrastructure for workshops to enable more young people to participate in the Mental Minds Program and for the annual competition to be held in Launceston.  The new equipment has also enabled the expansion of the Robocamp activities which are an introduction for participation in the competition and on-going robotics programs.
