Meander Valley Community Radio Inc. (MVCR Inc) has been formed to establish a not-for-profit community based FM radio station for the people in the Meander Valley and to operate the station in the best interests of the Meander Valley community.

The Tasmanian Community Fund provided support for an audio transmission link between the Radio Station studios located in Deloraine and a tower located at Gardners Ridge as well as the installation of antenna facilities. Once installed the broadcasting and transmission equipment allowed the Radio Station MVFM 96.9 to cover the broadcast area approved by the Australian Communication and Media Authority (ACMA).

A one-year Community Broadcasting Licence was granted to MVCR Inc by ACMA in March 2011. The Radio Station allows for the community of the Meander Valley to participate in a broadcasting service 24 hours per day 7 days per week. Volunteers work in various areas including the presentation of radio programs, carrying out station administration, attending to technical matters, managing radio programs and fundraising. The number of volunteers will increase from the current twenty as a wider range of contributor programs are generated.
Initially the Radio Station planned to provide easy listening music which was compatible with the demographics of the region. However, it was soon discovered that there was a need to publicise community events so a Daily Community Calendar was developed and community announcements from the broad range of organisations that are operating in the area are aired.

In addition to the individuals making programs the Radio Station is working with community groups and organisations to develop programs for on-air broadcasting. For instance the Grenoch and Kanangra elderly person facilities make a weekly program with the assistance of a volunteer presenter. The students from Westbury Primary School will soon be enjoying the same opportunity afforded to Deloraine High School year ten students who make a one hour weekly program with the assistance of school staff.
