Longford Men’s Shed

The Longford Men’s Shed was formed when the local community recognised the need for a place where men could assemble and where life-time skills could be practised and passed on to others. The Shed has been operating since 2010, providing a space where men of all ages can be mentored, where health and well-being can be encouraged, and a spirit of friendship can be offered to all.

Since its formation the membership of the Men’s Shed has grown from 16 in 2010 to nearly 70. This membership growth and demand for participation provided the impetus to expand the Shed to meet the community’s needs. With support from the Tasmanian Community Fund, the Shed was able to be increased by 130 square metres and is now a more effective space that includes a meeting room facility, an all-abilities bathroom, and safer storage of tools. The expansion has enhanced the workshop space and provided more room for community projects to be completed, and enabled more participants to be in the Shed at any time. Almost weekly, the Shed is receiving new enquiries about membership from men who bring with them a variety of skills that would have not been possible to have accommodated before.
