The Legerwood Hall and Reserves Committee is responsible for maintaining and improving the Legerwood Memorial Park including the WWI memorial carvings. The Committee are also caretakers of the Legerwood Hall, recreation ground and tennis court. Committee volunteers meet and greet tourists visiting the sculptures and hold working bees and fundraisers to further enhance the area.

The Committee purchased a train carriage for location in the Memorial Park to act as a tourist information booth and information centre. The carriage was externally sandblasted, painted and repaired and the carriage was placed in the Park against the original railway landing. The Committee recognised that the carriage needed a power supply and internal fit-out to enhance the visitor experience and provide adequate shelter for volunteers.

With Tasmanian Community Fund support the Committee was able to install power to the carriage, internal cupboards and display cases and weather proof the carriage. Whilst the initial funded project was being completed the Committee took the opportunity to install marine grade carpet and paint the ceiling carriage to ensure the works on the carriage were fully completed.

Since the completion of the project it has been much easier for the Committee to fill the daily volunteer roster as the carriage is a more inviting and comfortable working space. In turn, this leads to a better visitor experience and also enables volunteers to promote other local areas of interest.
