Break O’Day Council is located on the northern part of Tasmania’s east coast.  Council’s vision to ensure an active, forward looking and well managed community, creating a unique and desirable place to live, work and visit. This results in the Council providing a diverse range of services including facilities which encourage an active and involved community.

Support from the Tasmanian Community Fund has assisted the Council to install lights at the St Helens Skate Park.  The lighting enables longer usage of the skate park each day while enhancing safety and reducing anti-social behaviour and vandalism in the foreshore area.

A side benefit of installing the lights has been a considerable increase in the number of people using and walking along the foreshore area after dusk as the area now feels safer.  The hours of operation for the lights have been increased since the initial installation at the request of users and after Council considered the number of people using the park.

As a result of much positive feedback from within the community regarding the lighting and following requests for extension of the lit areas, the Council installed lights in the playground, further increasing the usage of the area and the nearby foreshore.
